Module 1 - Fundamentals of microeconomics

The first additional module deals with the Fundamentals of microeconomics. We will provide you with a solid basic knowledge of economics so that you can take on decision-making responsibility in your new role. After attending the course, you will be able to take a well-founded, independent position in economic policy discussions.

Participants will be able to recognize and explain general economic principles. The application of cost-benefit calculations to problems and the assessment of economic interdependencies and conflicting goals are further skills that you will acquire in our economics course.

This module also deals with the Household behavior on the goods and factor markets. They learn to differentiate between different market forms. After completing the module, participants will be able to describe how markets work and will be able to take a critical stance on the functioning of markets.

Module 2 - Fundamentals of Macroeconomics (6 ECTS)

In this part of the economics course, you will learn to understand complex macroeconomic interdependencies. Participants also learn to incorporate macroeconomic framework conditions into business management decisions. The behavior of households and companies on the goods, money and labor markets is a further aspect of this module, which covers all aspects of the economy. 106 ECTS includes.

Furthermore, this module is about bringing together essential theoretical models of macroeconomics. After completing the module, you will be able to use quantitative analyses to describe the real economic development and derive measures that are suitable for influencing economic development.

Module 3 - Monetary Policy and International Financial Markets (10 ECTS)

The third additional module is entitled "Monetary policy and international financial markets". It comprises three subject-specific learning units (economic fluctuations, interest rates and exchange rates). Here is an overview of some of the topics:

  • Economic fluctuations and their significance for the financial markets
  • The influence of the economy and growth on consumption and investment
  • The influence of expectations on government economic activity and economic policy

Interest:

  • Interest rates and their development: Theoretical background
  • Interest rates, expectations and equilibrium
  • Money supply and exchange rate in the short term

Exchange rates:

  • The Eurosystem as an institution
  • The euro and economic policy in the eurozone
  • Monetary policy strategies and the European Monetary Union

VWL further education: Further information

The first two modules of the economics course each comprise 6 ECTS. For the successful completion of the third module you will receive 10 ECTS credited. The modules can be completed in any order or individually. In other words, you can decide to complete only one or two of the three modules as part of your further education in economics.
