Master's in Business Education during parental leave

Desire for personal development through the Master's in Business Education

In December 2023, I started my distance learning course for a Master's degree in Business Education at Allensbach University. This represents another important step in my professional development. My academic path recently ended with a successfully completed Bachelor's degree in Business Administration at Heilbronn University. The knowledge I acquired in the field of business created a solid foundation for the world of work, but I still wanted to deepen what I had learned while continuing my personal development. So I decided to complete a Master's degree in Business Education. For me, this not only builds a bridge between business know-how and pedagogical expertise, but also offers me the opportunity to unite both worlds.

Exchange of experience with active vocational school teachers strengthened the decision

The influence of my wife, a vocational school teacher with a Master's degree, strengthened my determination. Her positive experiences and professional career served as an important source of inspiration for me. A possible future position in the civil service not only offers security, but also the opportunity to make a positive contribution to the education of young people, for example. My wife's experiences are a living example of the fulfilling and social aspects of this profession and field of activity.

At the same time, I was also able to benefit from the experiences of a friend who completed the same course at Allensbach University a few years ago and is now also a successful vocational teacher at a business school. His stories about practical experience and the compatibility of studying and working at Allensbach University gave me further impetus to embark on this educational journey on the Business Education course.

Master's degree in Business Education opens up broader professional horizons

My view of my professional future was and is characterized by various considerations. The continuous change in the world of work requires constant adaptation and further development. The Master's degree opens up broader professional horizons here. The possibility of employment in the aforementioned civil service as a vocational school teacher or in various sectors of the private sector offers flexible career options.

Master's degree is an investment in your own development

I currently work for a media company in the private sector and am generally very happy with my job and my team. However, the Master's in Business Education opens up additional options for my professional future, if necessary. Securing my career through further education, expanding my professional skills and creating prospects for a possible career as a teacher are the most important motivations behind my decision to do a Master's degree. But there is also a desire for self-realization. The idea of being actively involved in shaping the next generation of professionals also offers me an extremely exciting opportunity for personal fulfillment. It is an investment in my own development that should pay off in the future. At the same time, however, I also want to make a contribution to society in terms of education.

The flexibility of distance learning at Allensbach University is an advantage

Integrating the Master's degree into my everyday life is undoubtedly a major challenge, but one that is made considerably easier by the flexibility of distance learning at Allensbach University. The associated challenges are manifold and require precise organization and a sophisticated time management strategy. Basically, I try to draw up a plan every week that records important commitments, appointments and study times.

In terms of work, I am currently working a 4-day week. Parental leave allows me to look after my son on one day of the working week, while my wife can go to work on that day. Thanks to the variability of distance learning at Allensbach University, I can integrate the learning and study times freely and effectively into my weekly schedule. It's entirely up to me when I complete the required tasks and work for the individual modules and lectures.

Balancing family, work, sport and studies is the biggest challenge

The biggest challenge is undoubtedly balancing family, work, sport and studies. As the happy and proud father of a five-month-old son, family time is invaluable. The responsibilities and joys that come with fatherhood require a delicate balance between family duties and work commitments.

The nights for me and my wife are regularly short, as the needs of our young son naturally take priority. Daily work commitments require my full attention and the support of my wife, who also works, is indispensable. The flexibility of distance learning proves to be a lifeline in this context. The fact that learning modules are gradually unlocked makes it easier to access the course content. In addition, I am not confronted with an overload of tasks right from the start, which can be very intimidating, especially at the beginning. This gradual activation allows me to gradually shape the learning process and better manage my time.

Important: Healthy lifestyle and support from your spouse

Another challenge is to maintain a balanced and healthy lifestyle. Physical activities such as cycling, weight training and going for walks as often as possible are key to coping with stressful everyday life and counteracting hours of sitting while studying and working in the office.

Once again, my wife's support is crucial. Together we find ways to reconcile the demands of studying with our son's needs. Her understanding and commitment make it possible for me to concentrate on studying for two to three hours in the evening when the household is quiet. Of course, this time can always vary depending on the day and situation and is never set in stone. If you have more peace and quiet, you should also invest more time in studying. You should also plan extra time for your studies, especially at weekends. From my own experience, I can say that it never hurts to do the work you need to do ahead of your actual schedule. This way you can avoid unnecessary stress and pressure and, on the other hand, have a good feeling of important work done.

Distance learning also promotes personal development

Overall, this exhausting but also very enjoyable phase of my life illustrates that the challenges of the Master's degree in Business Education can be overcome not only through discipline and organization, but also through the support of my family and the adaptability of distance learning. These experiences strengthen my conviction that the knowledge I have gained will not only support and enable professional success, but also personal development and a fulfilling balance in my future life. I am very excited to see what lies ahead of me in the further course of my Master's studies and whether I can continue to grow with the tasks.
