Then the MBA in General Management is just right for you!

The MBA program provides you with a sound business education at a modern level. You will acquire fundamental business knowledge that is internationally oriented and practice-oriented. In addition to the basics of external and internal accounting, you will acquire skills in overarching management concepts such as project and process management. In addition, the course is geared towards the assumption of specialist and management tasks through issues of personnel management and organization as well as strategic management.

The MBA in General Management is offered as a distance learning program, can be completed while working and is flexible in terms of time and location. You can start the program at any time. You will acquire the required skills online and without compulsory attendance at a renowned university with a first-class teaching and service concept. The course has been reaccredited by the accreditation agency ZEvA and is approved by the State Central Agency for Distance Learning (ZFU).

This degree is internationally recognized and entitles you to apply for a doctorate.

MBA in three study options - What is the right option for you?

You can complete the MBA in General Management in Three study options complete:

  1. without a specialization with a study duration of 2 semesters (60 ECTS) - for graduates who have at least 240 ECTS ("Executive variant").
  2. without a specialization with a study duration of 3 semesters (90 ECTS) - for graduates with at least 210 ECTS.
  3. with a specialization and a study duration of 4 semesters (120 ECTS) - for graduates with 180 ECTS.

The degree course has nine specializations that allow you to specialize individually. You will acquire specific specialist knowledge in selected subject areas, round off your profile and become a sought-after expert.

What are the admission requirements?

MBA with specialization (120 ECTS)You already have a first, non-economic university degree with at least 180 ECTS (e.g. Bachelor's degree, state examination or diploma from any type of university) and at least one year of relevant professional experience.

MBA without specialization (90 ECTS): You already have a first, non-economic university degree with at least 210 ECTS (e.g. Bachelor's degree, state examination or diploma from any type of university) and at least one year of relevant professional experience.

MBA without specialization (60 ECTS): You already have a first, non-economic university degree with at least 240 ECTS (e.g. Bachelor's degree, state examination or diploma from any type of university) and at least three years of relevant professional experience, including at least one year as a manager.

They also have English language skills at level B2 of the Cambridge Certificate. If you have not taken a test, you can also prove your English language skills in a telephone test.

Bachelor's and Master's degree programs must add up to 300 ECTS, i.e. graduates with a Bachelor's degree with 180 ECTS can only be admitted to the degree program variant with 120 ECTS. If you have a first degree with 210 ECTS or more, you can choose between the degree program variants.

What credits are possible?

How is your course structured?

Internationalization and globalization processes are shaping the markets like never before. Decision-makers for entrepreneurial action are more in demand than ever. Experts with social and professional skills are deployed in various industries across all business areas in order to cope with rapidly changing competitive environments in a globalized economy. An MBA degree provides you with a sound business education, which you will need above all in management positions.

Semester 1: Strategic Management, Marketing and Accounting

In the first semester, you will receive an introduction to academic work and self-management. This should help you to adapt to the customs of academic work in economics. The methods and techniques of self-management should also provide you with valuable soft skills that can help you cope with your studies. In the "Management & Organization" module, you will receive an introduction to business administration, but also deal with strategic management and marketing. Finally, you will gain in-depth knowledge of internal and external accounting in the "Accounting & Controlling" module.

2nd semester: International Business, Project and Process Management, International Human Resources Management and Leadership

In the second semester, you will deal with the basic procedures and concepts of capital budgeting and corporate finance. In the "International Business" module, you will learn about internationalization strategies, deal with questions of international personnel management and gain insights into public affairs management. The "Leadership" module familiarizes you with basic management theories and shows you how these can be translated into concrete management action in practice. The semester concludes with the teaching of project and process management skills.

3rd semester: Specialization

By choosing a specialization, you can specialize and give your studies a particular profile. In the three specialization modules, you will acquire expert knowledge, which you will further deepen in an academic paper on a topic of your choice. You have the opportunity to pursue your particular interests or to specialize for the job market.

In the three-semester study option, the specialization is omitted and you start directly with your Master's thesis.

4th semester: Master's thesis

You will write your Master's thesis, which is an independent research paper that marks the end of your studies. Here you will demonstrate that you can work independently on a problem from the subject areas of the Master's program using scientific methods. Of course, you will receive individual supervision from our professors during this phase. You will present your Master's thesis at the end in a colloquium (online).

Various specializations are offered, allowing you to pursue an individual and specialized MBA degree.

1. compulsory elective area "Occupational health management"

modules of your specialization:

  • Fundamentals of occupational health management (10 ECTS)
  • Management skills in the context of occupational health management (10 ECTS)
  • Standards, controlling and evaluation in occupational health management (10 ECTS)

In this specialization, you will first learn about the content, functions and processes used in occupational health management. You will then be able to use specific instruments and methods in the field of occupational health management, particularly in the areas of prevention and health promotion. You will also become familiar with the relevant legal foundations of this specialist area.

2. compulsory elective area "Digital Business Management"

modules of your specialization:

  • Digital Business Modeling and Digital Leadership (10 ECTS)
  • Data Science Management (Big Data) (10 ECTS)
  • Fundamentals of Digital Marketing (10 ECTS)

Within this specialization, you will learn about the challenges of digital transformation and will then be able to analyze the specifics of designing digital business models. After completing the first specialization module, you will also understand the influences of the "digital revolution" on leadership and be able to name the requirements of a "digital leader".

The second in-depth module deals with the advantages of big data analytics and shows you how you can use methods and tools to handle large amounts of data in order to generate company-relevant information.

The third in-depth module focuses on the change processes resulting from digitalization and their relevance for marketing management. You will learn about the content and tools of online marketing and will be able to assess their suitability for different fields of application.

3. compulsory elective area "Economics"

modules of your specialization:

  • Fundamentals of Micro- and Macroeconomics (10 ECTS)
  • Monetary policy and international financial markets (10 ECTS)
  • Labor Market Economics (10 ECTS)

In the Economics major, you will first deal with the interplay of supply and demand on individual goods markets and learn about the possibilities of monetary and financial policy to influence national income and employment in Germany.

The second specialization module enables you to understand the importance of central banks for the financial markets, to explain the limits of monetary and fiscal policy and to understand the effects of expectations and economic policy on the financial markets.

The in-depth module "Labor Market Economics" deals with the determinants of labor supply and demand in perfect labor markets and the causes of discrimination in the labor market.

4. compulsory elective area "Engineering Management"

The Digitization plays an important role in the development of companies. In the focus "Engineering Management", you will learn the basics of innovation management and will be able to identify success factors for innovation processes and successfully implement innovations.

In the second in-depth module, you will first deal with the advantages of big data analytics. You will then learn how to apply methods and tools for handling large volumes of data in order to generate company-relevant information.

The specialization module "Industrial Information Management" will teach you how to classify the relevant topics of Industry 4.0 and how to use them in your professional environment in connection with the discussions on digital transformation.

5. compulsory elective area "Finance Management"

  • Corporate Finance (10 ECTS)
  • Risk management (10 ECTS)
  • Private Equity and Hedge Funds (10 ECTS)

In this specialization, you will learn about the key aspects of financial decisions in companies as well as the associated models and their theoretical foundation, enabling you to make qualified financial decisions.

In the in-depth module "Risk Management", you will learn how to identify, assess, monitor and manage business risks in order to reduce undesirable risks for the company and increase the company's value.

The compulsory elective area concludes by imparting knowledge of strategies and instruments for dealing with private equity and hedge funds.

6. compulsory elective area "Human Resources Management"

  • Human Resource Management I (10 ECTS)

The specialization in "Human Resources Management" first teaches you the goals and tasks of the organization so that you can describe and evaluate organizational structures as well as differentiate organizational theories and transfer them to current issues in your company. You will also learn about the importance of knowledge management for corporate management and will be able to introduce it into your company.

In addition to knowledge of the organization, you will gain a basic understanding of human resources management and learn about the possibilities of capacity management, flexibilization, professionalization and internationalization of employees.

7. compulsory elective area "Marketing Management"

modules of your specialization:

  • Core elements of market-oriented corporate management (10 ECTS)
  • Industry-specific marketing management (10 ECTS)
  • Business Relationship Management (10 ECTS)

In the module "Core elements of market-oriented corporate management", you will deal with the theoretical foundations of marketing science and marketing management as a market-oriented concept of corporate management. You will also learn about the basic ideas of the integrative-processual marketing approach.

The second specialization module prepares you to apply marketing in different sectors and to develop marketing concepts that are appropriate to the type of service.

In the third in-depth module, you will learn about the factors influencing customer orientation,
-The customer loyalty and customer satisfaction management tools are explained so that you can apply the appropriate customer loyalty instruments.

8. elective area "Transformation and Turnaround Management"

  • Change Management (10 ECTS)
  • Crisis Management (10 ECTS)
  • Remediation management (10 ECTS)

Within the in-depth module "Change Management", you will learn about the possibilities for adapting existing business models so that you can structure them in everyday business life and apply the methods of change management. Another focus of this module is on the importance of communication in times of change, where you will learn about and apply communication techniques to support change processes.

Successful crisis management first requires knowledge of the causes of crises and typical crisis processes. You will learn about these in the second in-depth module so that, after completing the module, you will be able to practice the early detection of business and liability risks and shape change management.

In the third in-depth module, you will learn to analyze company situations and then propose suitable measures for restructuring, develop and calculate restructuring scenarios and differentiate between restructuring strategies and evaluate their suitability.

9. compulsory elective area "Business Psychology"

modules of your specialization:

  • Fundamentals of Business Psychology (10 ECTS)
  • Work and Organizational Psychology (10 ECTS)
  • Market and Consumer Psychology (10 ECTS)

In the "Fundamentals of Business Psychology" module, you will first learn about the most important sub-areas of business psychology from a corporate management perspective before moving on to psychology as a science and getting to know the goals, tasks, methods and instruments of psychology in general and business psychology in particular and applying them to practical examples.

The module "Work and Organizational Psychology" introduces you to the tasks and main topics of work and organizational psychology and familiarizes you with the most important theories and models of work and organizational psychology. After completing the module, you will be able to understand the development of stress, job satisfaction and dissatisfaction as well as the conditions for effective teamwork.

In the "Market and consumer psychology" module, you will deal with the most important theories of market and consumer psychology, different types of purchasing decisions and the development of customer satisfaction, customer loyalty and customer retention. You will also learn to characterize various advertising impact models and apply methods of psychological market research.

By choosing a specialization, you will earn 120 ECTS credits.

How long will your studies take and what degree will you receive?

Standard period of study without specialization: 18 months

It is possible to extend the duration of studies by up to 9 months free of charge, so that the course can be completed in 18 to 27 months, depending on individual scheduling.

Standard period of study with specialization: 24 months

It is possible to extend the duration of the course by up to 12 months free of charge, so that the course can be completed in 24 to 36 months, depending on individual scheduling.

Standard period of study without specialization "Executive Variant": 12 months

It is possible to extend the duration of study by up to 6 months free of charge, so that the course can be completed in 12 to 18 months, depending on individual time planning.

Start of studies: at any time

Once you have successfully completed all examinations, the university will award you the academic degree "Master of Business Administration (MBA)", which also entitles you to a doctorate.
