Organization and knowledge management

The topics of organization and knowledge management are closely related in companies: the design of the organization must ensure that learning and the targeted handling of knowledge in the company function in the best possible way. At the same time, the generation of new knowledge helps to further improve the organization. Both areas, organizational and knowledge management, can therefore support each other, but in negative cases they can also block or hinder each other. The term "learning organization" vividly illustrates this close relationship.

This module therefore examines the interrelationships from both perspectives, that of the organization and that of knowledge management.

In this module, you will learn about different organizational structures and how to evaluate their strengths and weaknesses. Furthermore, you will become familiar with the basic goals and tasks of the organization and deal with efficiency principles as well as elements of structural and process organization.

Based on insights into first and second generation knowledge management, the connection between knowledge management and skills development will be made clear to you. Building on this, you will develop the know-how to implement competence-oriented knowledge management, including the associated fundamental organizational change process.
