The university certificate "Fundamentals of Economics" comprises individual modules of the Bachelor of Business Administration Online. It can be fully credited towards the degree course. With this university certificate, you will acquire the essential basics of business administration, economics and business law.
Particular emphasis is placed on ensuring that you understand the business as a whole. At the end of the certificate course, you will be able to interpret balance sheets as a scientist or take on cost center responsibility as an engineer, for example.
The certificate program is compulsory as a preparatory course for all applicants who have not completed a first degree in economics and who wish to be admitted to the Master programs with the exception of the MBA General Management. The MBA is explicitly aimed at applicants without a first degree in economics.
This is a Distance learning without compulsory attendance, lectures take place online.

There are no special admission requirements for the university certificate. A university entrance qualification or commercial training is an advantage.
If you have already completed a further training course (e.g. Betriebswirt IHK, Betriebswirt VWA or Bankbetriebswirt) or have achieved comparable results at another university, it is possible to receive credit towards the university certificate. We will be happy to check for you individually which credits we can offer you. Talk to our student advisory service!
You will complete the following modules in your certificate program:
- Introduction to General Business Administration - proof of performance: online exam
- Accounting I - Proof of achievement: Submission work
- Introduction to economics - proof of achievement: assignment
- Business Law I - Proof of achievement: Submission (case study)
- Cost accounting and controlling - Proof of achievement: Submission work
- Corporate management - proof of performance: online exam
The standard period of study is eight months. You can extend the duration of your studies by a further eight months free of charge.
